I'm in a ranting fucking mood this morning. All of Western Civilization is due for some of my wrath right now. And given how unreasonable most of the rest of the world is, I think I could throw some snide comments their way as well.

I am not at peace. I do not approve. I don't like your institutions of the status quo, I don't like your corrupt and ineffective systems of government, I don't like your rules of behavior, and I don't particularly like *you* right now.

And I'm getting less and less concerned about the opinions of those who would judge me for being me. I'm not as willing to put on a happy face and pretend I'm okay with it all.

So keep fighting your idiotic wars, keep thinking that your way of having sex is the ONLY way everyone else should always have sex, keep destroying, keep going to your narrow minded church, and please, keep killing yourself with that hamburger, cause you know what? That part's kinda funny.

Rain: hate it? Love it? Indifferent?
I react differently to the rain at different times. Sometimes I love it, and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I appreciate the natural state of the rain season, and other times I just can't wait till it's over, you know?

2. Relate an interesting story from your life involving rain (e.g. a big storm, a romantic walk in the rain, etc.).
this answer has been sensored for issues of National Security.

3. How much does it usually rain where you live? Is that too much for you? Not enough? Just right?
It rains alot where i live, and ideally, it would rain fairly close to the norm throughout the year. Too much or too little rain can both be harmful to the natural order of things. My occasional discomfort with the rain is of far lessor consequence than what Nature decides she wants, needs, or maybe even feel a girl-like whim toward. It's her right to extract as much or as little as she says. Then there's the whole problem with man's arrogant interference with Her Natural order of things.

4. Is it raining right now where you are? Tell us your favourite song lyric with "rain" in it (or any lyric that comes to mind, if you can't pick a "favourite").
That sysipisian arachnid from out nursury rymes
The Itsy bitsy spider
crawled up the water spout.
Down came the rain
and washed the spider out

Out came the Sun
and dried up all the rain
and the itsy bitsy spider
crawled up the spout again

He was part of my dream, of course--but then I was part of his dream, too! WAS it the Red King, Kitty? You were his wife, my dear, so you ought to know -- Oh, Kitty, DO help to settle it! I'm sure your paw can wait!' But the provoking kitten only began on the other paw, and pretended it hadn't heard the question.

Which do YOU think it was?
licks paw, rubs on face, looks up... "Mrrwak?"

In case any of you were interested in the discussion topic posed by the Dan Savage column I linked to two weeks ago, he's followed that column up with several letters and commentary, much of which I think is extremely telling.
the original column
the follow-up section

of particular interest to me:
"DAN HERE: I find it interesting that so much mail poured in with advice for WILLIE, all of it predicated on the assumption that he was doing something terribly, terribly wrong. I got so much mail from people who wanted to tell WILLIE that the fault was his, that he obviously needed to be more loving.

Oddly enough, no one wrote in to blame FS for her problem. Her husband won't put out, and—guess what?—most people who wrote in seemed to think that was her husband's fault, not hers. FS' husband must be gay or already cheating on her. Hmm. I find it odd that no long letters arrived laying out what FS was doing wrong.

Is it always the man's fault, I wonder? If something is going wrong in a couple's sex life, the man must be to blame?"

(With a nod to Hensen's Dinosaurs, the ABC show that was on from 1991-1994 and could easily make this list.)

4. Freaks & Geeks. Judd Apatow created this short-lived drama set in a high school in the early 80's. If you've not seen it, it's available on DVD and should be watched. You can't watch the show and not fall in love with Linda Cardellini's Lindsey Weir. Yes, that's a dare. And Bill Haverchuck is unforgettable.

5. Futurama. In much the same way The Big Lebowski was better than Fargo but far less popular, Futurama was better than the Simpsons. Some of the best voice acting ever assembled delivered jokes so good that I constantly find myself recalling them and giggling my ass off. And has any show ever sent up Richard Nixon more consistently? (Perhaps you'd have to be a faithful reader of the Radioactive Man comics to know how deep Matt Greoning's loathing of Nixon flows.) I understand why the show wasn't as widely accepted, and I recognize that I am one of the few people to whom it really appeals, but damn this show was funny.

6. Lost. I've only seen season one, but it was flat out fun. I could write an article on every character, and there's 14 of them. Gilligan's Island meets the X-Files. Brilliant. Favorite episode of season one was "Numbers" which featured Hurley's back story and was scary enough to keep me awake.

Special mentions: Star Trek's many incarnations. I loved that universe and loved what it said about what humanity could become if only we'd fucking try. The Tick, both animated and live action. Carnivale (I've only seen season one, but wow.) And like I said, probably a gazillion others that I'm not recalling.

Analysis: wow, I'm a genre geek.
